Italian premier Paolo Gentiloni will hold talks with Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Friday, Merkel's spokesman said on Monday, German news agency DPA reported.
The refugee crisis, bilateral relations, deeper European integration and moves to reform and renew the European Union are among likely topics on the agenda at the meeting between the two leaders.
Merkel cancelled a meeting in Berlin last week with Gentiloni due to a delay in the signing of a coalition deal between Merkel's conservative CDU/CSU alliance and the Social Democrats (SPD).
Gentiloni cut short his trip to Berlin last Wednesday after Merkel reportedly phoned herself to tell him that she needed to postpone their meeting.
Gentiloni's meeting with Merkel comes as Italy is gearing up for an uncertain national election on 4 March.
Support for Gentiloni's ruling centre-left Democratic Party is trailing the populist Five-Star Movement and a conservative bloc led by former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi and no party is likely to win an outright majority, pollsters predict.
