Italy's foreign minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi on Tuesday tweeted his country's condolences for the victims of the deadly Typhoon Mangkhut which hit the Philippines at the weekend before lashing Hong Kong and making landfall in southern China on Monday.
"Moavero Milanesi expresses Italy's great and sincere closeness and solidarity with (the families of) those killed and with those injured by Typhoon Mangkhut, which has struck vast areas of Asia in recent days, causing numerous victims and massive damage," read the tweet.
Worst hit by far was the Philippines, where more than 60 people were killed when the violent tropical storm cut a swathe through northern Luzon, causing flooding and mudslides and affecting millions of people.
The super-typhoon with winds of up to 250 kilometers per hour was one of the most powerful storms to hit the region in decades.
