Italy's head of state Sergio Mattarella on Friday held talks in Rome with Israel's president Reuven Rivlin and hosted him at a lunch at the Quirinale palace, Mattarella's office said in a statement.
Italy's foreign minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi also joined Mattarella and Rivlin, the statement said.
Rivlin's visit to Italy coincides with the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel which will be celebrated by Italian institutions to underscore the strong friendship between the two states, according to the government.
