Libya's interior minister Fathi Bashaga is in Washington DC on an official visit to discuss security in the chaos-stricken North African country, the Libyan Observer said Tuesday on its website, citing an interior ministry source.

During his talks, Bashaga was set to discuss coordination and cooperation in combating terrorism and organized crime with officials of the FBI and the Pentagon, according to the source.

It is Bashaga's first visit to the United States since he become interior minister in Libya's United Nations backed national unity government in October last year, according to the Libyan Observer.
