Relations between Italy and Turkmenistan got a boost when foreign ministry undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano and a business delegation visited the energy-rich Central Asian Republic Wednesday, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
"The visit has jump-started relations with Turkmenistan and consolidated an economic partnership with a country rich in natural resources that offers Italy and its industrial technology tangible prospects," the statement said.
A key achievement of Di Stefano's visit was a cooperation agreement for 2019-2020 signed between the Italian and Turkmen foreign ministries, according to the statement.
During the visit, Di Stefano and the Italian business representatives met Turkmenistan's deputy premier and foreign minister Rashid Meredov, deputy premier in charge of gas and oil Myratgeldi Meredov, and Aleksandr Dadaev, head of the Turkmen business association.
The business delegation mustered representatives from Italy's plant and industrial component manufacturing, oil and gas, defence, space and telecommunications sectors, said the statement.
