The escalating conflict in lawless Libya could spawn more international terrorism, Italy's foreign minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi told reporters in Rome on Wednesday after talks with United Nations envoy Ghassan Salame.
"Terrorist phenomena could re-emerge from the Libyan crisis," Moavero said.
"International terrorism has never ceased, as we see," Moavero said.
Moavero's comments came after suicide blasts at churches and hotels in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Sunday in which 359 people were killed - attacks claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group.
"This is also why we are supporting UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame's efforts," Moavero added. Salame's plan to stabilise the North African country envisions an inclusive political solution to the conflict involving UN-facilitated dialogue and a national conference leading to free and fair elections.
