There is a "meeting of minds" and "ever-closer" cooperation between Greece and Italy, foreign minister Nikos Dendias tweeted on Thursday during a visit to Athens by his Italian counterpart Enzo Moavero Milanesi.
"Meeting of minds and ever-closer coordination mechanisms. Italy and Greece have the same geopolitics. We are in the Mediterranean," read the tweet.
The aim of Moavero's one-day visit to Greece aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation to stabilise the Mediterranean region and "better regulating" the migrant influx, the Italian foreign ministry said in statement on Thursday.
Moavero's is the first EU foreign minister to hold talks in Athens with members of the new Greek government which took office after the centre-right New Democracy won a landslide victory in snap elections in July, the statement pointed out.
