Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on Tuesday condemned the "shocking and unacceptable" number of people killed in northern Syria since Turkey unleashed a "devastating" military offensive there last week.
"The death-toll for the victims of Turkey's unilateral action in Syria is already dramatic and unacceptable, with hundreds of deaths and devastating humanitarian consequences," Di Maio told MPs in Rome
Di Maio denounced the "brutal assassination" on Saturday of Kurdish female politician Hevrin Khalaf and 10 other people in a roadside ambush at Tal Abyad, allegedly by Turkish-backed militants.
The Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) denies involvement in the deadly shootings.
Khalaf was the secretary-general of the Future Syria Party, which had taken part in the administration of northern Syria.
