Bahrain's Crown Prince and foreign minister Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa's visit to Italy is a "turning point" in bilateral relations, foreign minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday after they held talks in Rome and signed a series of accords in various sectors.
“Today’s visit marks a turning point in the relations between our two Countries. I am convinced that the agreements we signed today will significantly boost cooperation between Italy and Bahrain," Di Maio said in a statement.
Di Maio also underlined the growing interest shown by many Italian businesses in the Bahrain market, and especially in the infrastructure, energy and renewables sectors.
Al Khalifa and Di Maio's talks centred on "the Iranian nuclear issue and developments of the situation in the Gulf and Libya," according to the foreign ministry.
During his visit to Rome, Al Khalifa was due to inaugurate Bahrain's embassy and to attend the AssAfrica&Mediterraneo business forum during his visit. A political and business delegation is accompanying Al Khalifa.
