Italy's president Sergio Mattarella on Friday met his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for talks at the Quirinale Palace in Rome, Mattarella's office said in a statement.
Foreign under-secretary Manlio Di Stefano also attended the meeting, according to the statement.
Zelensky was also due to hold talks with Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte during his visit to Rome.
A former comedian, Zelenksy was elected president of Ukraine last May after defeating incumbent Petro Poroshenko in a run-off.
