President Sergio Mattarella on Wednesday met premier Giuseppe Conte and other key members of the government ahead of a key European Union summit on Thursday and Friday where Italy wants leaders to agree a 750 billion euro recovery plan to rescue Europe's Coronavirus-ravaged economies.
Also present at the traditional working lunch at the Quirinale Palace were foreign minister Luigi Di Maio, finance minister Roberto Gualtieri, European affairs minister Vincenzo Amendola and cabinet under-secretary Riccardo Fraccaro.
