Italy gives firefighting equipment to Lebanon

Ten fire engines, firefighting equipment and food has arrived at Beirut's port aboard an Italian ship after the devastating explosion there earlier this month, the Italian embassy tweeted on Monday.

"Arrival of the Italian ship Capucine in Beirut's port this morning carrying 10 firefighting vehicles, equipment for 50 firefighters & food products," read the tweet.

The items were donated by the city of Florence to Beirut's Fire Department and took place in the presence of Italy's ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardiere.

Lebanon's government resigned after 4 August blast in which at least 200 people were killed. Officials say the disaster occurred when a fire ignited over 2,700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate being stored unsafely at the city's port.
