Italy hailed the Rome-based United Nations World Food Programme's Nobel peace prize win on Friday, underlining that food security is a priority for the country's overseas aid and for the planet.
"Very Glad that WFP has been awarded a truly well-deserved NobelPeacePrize. Congratulations to David Beasley WFP Chief and all WFP staff around the world," tweeted Italy's deputy foreign minister Emanuela Del Re.
"Food & FoodSecurity priority issues for Italy's overseas aid, backbone of Agenda2030 and global challenges to be addressed together," the tweet added.
Italy's government and its foreign ministry also deserved credit for the UN agency's Nobel win, Del Re said in a earlier tweet.
"Collaboration and cooperation between Italy and @WFP is excellent, longstanding and strategic. We proudly host WFP headquarters in Rome and @UNHRD in Brindisi, " read the tweet.
"Committed to enhance our partnership in the future!" the tweet ended.
