Premier Giuseppe Conte congratulated US president-elect Joe Biden and vice-president-elect Kamala Harris on winning the 3 November polls, stressing the "traditional deep bonds of friendship and alliance between the two countries," Conte's office stated on Friday.
"The President of the Council of Ministers had tonight a phone call with the President-elect of the United States of America, Joseph Biden Jr," said the statement.
"PM Conte reiterated his congratulations to Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris," the statement continued.
"The traditional deep bonds of friendship and alliance between the two countries were highlighted as well as a strong will to cooperate to address the main global challenges, on which Italy and the US share the same priorities."
The phone call came as US president Donald Trump continues to challenges the election vote count in several states and refuses to concede defeat.
