US-led coalition drone raids killed at least seven fighters from the Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Nusra Front in northwest Syria, a UK-based group monitoring the war said on Thursday.
"Seven al-Nusra members, including commanders, were killed in at least five coalition airstrikes against the group's bases and a vehicle in Idlib province," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights' director, Rami Abdel Rahman.
He could not confirm how many Al-Nusra commanders were killed but said a car belonging to one of its military leaders was among the targets of the overnight raids.
The vehicle was hit by a rocket on a road between the cities of Sarmada and Kafr-Daryan, the watchdog said.
The air strikes took place in Idlib province, most of which has come under Al-Nusra control since the group and its rebel allies launched a major operation earlier this year to expel Syrian president president Bashar al-Assad's forces.
Al-Nusra pledges allegiance to al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri, but currently only operates in Syria, where has allied with Islamist groups fighting the Syrian government and the Islamic State militant group.
The Al-Nusra Front and IS are both blacklisted by the United States as terrorist organisations.
