The 18-year-old alleged ringleader of an Egyptian gang accused of robbing two young men near the central Termini rail station in August has been arrested, police said on Thursday.

Another alleged gang member, who is a minor, was traced a shelter for young immigrants, while police were searching for a third suspect, who is a young adult, according to investigators.

In the attack at Rome's Piazza Cinquecento square, the men were robbed at knifepoint and beaten by the three Egyptian teens, said police.

One of men was admitted to hospital after being violently struck on the head during the attack with the handle of a large knife.

The three Egyptian suspects were identified from footage from security cameras positioned in Piazza Cinquecento which recorded the attack, investigators said.
