An 18-year-old schoolboy was killed by a train in northeast Italy on Wednesday as he listened to music on his headphones in thick fog, police said, citing witnesses.
Luca Sponchiado was waiting at his local station to catch a train to a high school in the city of Treviso, sitting besides the tracks and seemed not to see or hear the goods train approaching, according to witnesses.
The driver said he did not see the student until it was too late because of the thick fog.
Police said Sponchiado may have fallen after being sucked into the train's path.
The accident happened at the town of San Biagio di Callalta, the birthplace of French fashion designer Pierre Cardin.
It followed similar recent tragedies involving teenagers in Italy.
In September, a 16-year-old girl died when she was hit by an express train at San Ruffillo station in Bologna and a 17-year-old boy was killed on the Bologna-Verona line by a goods train.
