Police in central Italy on Friday arrested a man suspected of the brutal murder of 42-year-old Katia Dell'Omarino, whose body was found in a riverbed in July.
The murder suspect is a 24-year-old computer technician from San Giustino Umbro, in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region, police said.
The man is accused of bludgeoning to death Dell'Omarino, whose corpse was discovered on the outskirts of the Tuscan town of Sansepolcro on 12 July after she failed to return home the previous evening.
The suspect was arrested after his DNA was identified on Dell'Omarino's body. Investigators are trying to establish a motive for the killing.
Dell'Omarino's skull had been smashed, investigators believe with a hammer. She vanished after she went out in her car to meet someone after dinner and her mobile phone has not been found.
The victim lived with her mother around a kilometre from where her corpse was discovered.
