The Islamic State jihadist group has taken credit for the deadly blast after a concert at the Manchester Arena by US singer Ariana Grande, US terrorism-tracking organisation SITE Intelligence tweeted on Tuesday.

SITE's director SITE's director Rita Katz tweeted a message posted by IS to Telegram claiming it carried out Monday's bombing with a explosive devices planted at the concert and warned of "more severe" attacks.

"With Allah's Grace and support, a soldier of the Caliphate managed to place explosive devices in the midst of the gatherings of the crusaders in the British city of Manchester," read the claim of responsibility.

The devices were detonated in the "shameless concert arena" killing 30 "Crusaders" and injuring 70, the message said.

"It was an attempt to terrorise the unbelievers and in response to their transgressions against the lands of the Muslims," it stated.

"And what comes next will be more severe on the worshippers of the Cross and their allies, by Allah's permission," the message ended.

World leaders have expressed outrage and condolences with the UK over the attack, including US president Donald Trump, French president Emmanuel Macron, and Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas.

The 22-member Arab League and Muslim nations Iran and Turkey also condemned the blast.

IS supporters have exalted the attack and have used the encrypted Telegram messaging service to re-circulate videos threatening the UK and the West, Katz said in an earlier tweet.

At last 22 people died and some 60 were injured in the Manchester Arena bombing which took place at 22.35 local time on Monday, according to British police.

Police in Britain said on Tuesday they had arrested a 23-year-old man in Chorlton, south Manchester, in connection with the attack while Britain's premier Theresa May said security services believed they knew the identity of the bomber.
