Representatives of the United States Embassy to the Vatican were due to attend a prayer vigil in Rome on Thursday to honour victims of the Las Vegas shooting attack that killed 58 people and injured nearly 500.
The vigil will take place at 5pm local time Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Via Buoncomapagni in central Rome, the US Embassy to the Holy See said in a statement.
Investigators are trying to find out why 64-year-old Stephen Paddock carried out the worst massacre in recent US history on Sunday when he fired from a high-rise hotel suite onto thousands of concert-goers below before committing suicide and whether the gunman had any help.
The Islamic State jihadist group claimed the attack, saying it was carried out by one of "soldiers" who converted to Islam in recent months, but officials say no evidence has emerged so far to back up the claim.
