Pope Francis on Friday called on individuals, state authorities and organisations to make sure the Internet nurtures children's development and does not lead them into danger but keeps them safe.
"Let us ensure that the Internet is a safe and richly human place for children: a network that does not entrap them but helps them to grow," Francis tweeted from his nine-language @pontifex Twitter account.
Francis was on Friday due to address a conference on protecting children in the digital world taking place this week at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
