Egypt's foreign minister Sameh Shoukry on Friday called on the international community to back his country's fight against terrorism by supplying it with "advanced technical know-how".
"We don't need direct military intervention, we can do that ourselves, " Shoukry told the Mediterranean Dialogues summit being held in Rome through Saturday.
What Egypt needs to combat organisations like the Islamic State jihadist group is "advanced technical know-how" from the world's militaries, Shoukry said.
Shoukry cited the recent example of 24 November terror attack in Egypt's volatile North Sinai province - claimed by IS - which killed 311 people including 27 children.
"We need to step up cooperation with the international community to help Egypt because we are facing a common peril that must be tackled with the necessary force," he said.
