Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano on Monday hailed the"strong" ties between his country to the United States, noting that they are partners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kosovo among world hotspots.
"Italy and the USA are bound by a very strong alliance that rests its roots in history and in common values," Alfano said after a meeting at the foreign ministry in Rome with deputy US defence secretary John Sullivan.
"We also share the same commitment in multiple areas of crisis such as Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq," Alfano continued.
He and Sullivan discussed the Mediterranean, the Sahel, "the strategic security challenges in Europe, Asia and Ukraine and managing migration flows,” Alfano stated.
