Italy on Tuesday sent condolences to the United States on the 17th anniversary of Al-Qaeda's attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington on 11 September, 2001 in which nearly 3,000 people were killed.
"Seventeenth anniversary of the attacks. On the occasion of the 17th anniversary of September 11th, our thoughts remain with the victims and those who lost their loved ones on that tragic day," Italy's foreign ministry tweeted.
