Libya's premier Fayez al-Sarraj will hold talks in Rome on Monday with Italy's prime minister Giuseppe Conte amid a deadly military escalation in Tripoli, Adnkronos has learned from sources in Conte's office.
The United Nations says at least 432 people have died, more than 2,000 have been injured and 55,000 have fled their homes in fighting between eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar's militia and forces loyal to the UN backed Sarraj government which broke out when Haftar began an assault on Tripoli on 5 April.
Italy, Libya's former colonial power, is eager to see a truce in Tripoli and Conte and Sarraj have spoken several times by phone in recent days. Support for Haftar from Russia and the US has so far blocked a UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire.
