There are no longer any migrant rescue boats off Libya's coast, Italy's hardline interior minister Matteo Salvini said on Wednesday, adding that he'd also like to turn around the economy.
"There is a singular 'coincidence' - there have been no landings over the past week since there have been no NGO boats operating off the Libyan coast," Salvini said during a visit to Rome's Verano cemetery.
"We want to help the economy in the same that we have aided the fight against traffickers," Salvini added.
Last year, Salvini closed Italian ports to rescue ships and the populist government has introduced hefty fines for anyone sailing into its waters without permission.
