Over 105,000 people displaced in battle for Tripoli

More than 105,000 people have fled their homes since eastern warlord Khalifa Haftar began an aerial and ground offensive to capture the Libyan capital Tripoli in early April, the United Nations refugee agency tweeted on Friday.

Those displaced by the deadly conflict between Haftar's forces and militias allied with the internationally recognised government "continue to need support, peace and stability," UNHCR's tweet said

UNCHR has only been able to help 2,200 out of 21,000 displaced families, the agency noted.

There are a total 268,000 people displaced in Libya, according to UNHCR.

Libya has been wracked by conflict since the NATO-backed ouster of late dictator Muammar Gaddafi during an uprising in 2011, with rival administrations in the east and in Tripoli backed by a myriad of armed groups vying for control of the oil-rich country.
