Di Stefano attends intellectual property webinar

Italy's foreign undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano on Monday addressed the webinar "The management of the intellectual property in internationalization processes", within the cycle of virtual meetings "Live training" organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) for Italian companies.

"The foreign ministry through its diplomatic-consular network and ICE offices, acts to protect Italian companies also in the complex field of intellectual property protection, most recently through the tools made available by the Export Pact, signed by (foreign) minister (Luigi) Di Maio on 8 June."

Companies that make intensive use of intellectual property rights generate almost half of Italy's GDP and guarantee almost a third of jobs. For a country like Italy with an export-driven economy, companies must reduce the risk of losing foreign market share due to counterfeiting, Italian sounding and theft of intellectual property, in the form of trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, patents or geographical indications," Di Stefano said.

"I am pleased to announce that we will be adding new professionals to our representations abroad who are most concerned with the regulation and protection of intellectual property at the international and multilateral level, i.e. in Geneva and Brussels, the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organisation and the World Trade Organisation respectively, and the European institutions," he concluded.
