Italy's foreign minister Angelino Alfano will meet his Lebanese counterpart Gebran Bassil in Rome on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Alfano and Bassil are slated to held a joint press conference at the foreign ministry in Rome after their meeting.
Bassil's visit to Rome comes amid a political crisis in Lebanon and a diplomatic row in the Middle East region triggered by the shock resignation on 4 November of the country's premier Saad al-Hariri in a broadcast from Saudi Arabia.
In the broadcast resignation speech, Hariri blamed interference in Lebanon by Saudi Arabia's regional rival Iran and allied Lebanese Shia Hezbollah movement for his decision, adding that he feared an assassination attempt.
