A 20-year-old American college student who fell from a third-floor apartment in the central Italian city of Perugia underwent major surgery to repair damage to her bladder and spinal column on Wednesday.
The surgery at a Perugia hospital was expected to last six or seven hours, doctors said.
The Florida native was rushed to hospital early on Wednesday in a critical condition after she lost apparently lost her balance and plunged over 12 metres onto the ground below after an evening spent drinking with friends.
The woman was staying in a central Perugia apartment as part of a study trip.
