Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on thanked Albania for its solidarity in sending 60 Albanian nurses on Monday to help frontline medical staff in Italy's hospitals fight the country's dramatic Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.
"We have received a great example of solidarity from Albania. I am extremely proud of the help that Italy is getting," Di Maio said as he met the nurses on their arrival aboard an Air Albania plane.
Albania's despatch of the nurses " is the fruit of the solidarity that Italy has shown," Di Maio said, thanking the people and government of Albania.
Albania's deputy foreign minister Etjen Xhafaj travelled to Italy with the 60 nurses.
