Silvio Berlusconi successfully underwent a 30-minute operation Friday to replace his pacemaker, said the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.
The 79-year-old ex-premier was placed under local anaesthetic during the procedure and was expected to be discharged later on Friday or at the weekend.
His original pacemaker was fitted in the United States in 2006.
