A tugboat transporting 62 migrants that it saved in the Mediterranean was due to arrive in the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on Friday, the city's mayor Roberto Ammatuna said.
The Asso 25 tug rescued the migrants overnight in Malta's search and rescue area and began heading to the tiny southern Italian island of Lampedusa, according to migrant boat hotline Alarm Phone.
French charity plane @PVolunteers spotted the migrants aboard inflatable dinghy on Wednesday, according to a message posted to Asso 25's Twitter account on Friday.
