A 62-year-old climber died after falling 20 metres from a rockface in Allumiere in the province of Rome on Sunday.
The man was airlifted to Rome's Policlinico Gemelli hospital where he died from the severe injuries sustained in the fall, doctors said.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
Some reports said the man was free climbing.
