Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte on Wednesday launched an appeal for biodiversity, warning that the planet is in jeopardy unless nations act.
"Without biodiversity, the health of the planet is at risk: time is running out," Conte tweeted.
"The Italian presidency of the G20 and our partnership with the United Kingdom for COP26 in 2021 move in this direction," the tweet added.
Conte was referring to the United Nations climate change conference taking place in Glasgow, Scotland, in November. Italy is hosting some of COP26's preliminary events.
"Nature must be at the heart of the political agenda," the tweet ended.
