Conte: Italy eager to work with incoming US administration

Italy's premier Giuseppe Conte is keen to work with United States president-elect Joe Biden and vice-president Kamala Harris to boost "sustainable, inclusive" global growth, Conte stated on Thursday.

"I can't wait to work together with President Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris on an agenda for global growth, sustainability and inclusions," Conte wrote on social media.

Italy has made sustainable, inclusive global economic recovery and multi-lateralism key elements of its Group of Twenty (G20) presidency this year.

Conte's post came after the US Congress in a late-night session certified Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election, hours after Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill in an attack that saw four people die.

The Congressional vote clears the way for Biden to be sworn in as US president on 20 January.

Trump has pledged an "orderly transition" of power despite his claim that Biden's victory in the 3 November president was fraudulent.

Republican and Democratic election officials and independent observers have said there was no significant fraud in the November contest. There have been multiple failed court challenges against the election filed by Trump and his allies against the election result since November.

Biden won 7 million more votes than Trump in polls that saw a 67% turnout - the highest since 1900.
