Conte to hold talks in Assisi with Jordan's King Abdullah

Italy's populist premier Giuseppe Conte will on Friday meet Jordan's King Abdullah in the central city of Assisi, where the monarch is due to receive the Catholic Lamp of Peace award, Conte's office said in a statement.

Conte and Abdullah's talks will take place after the prize-giving ceremony, which will be attended by Conte, as well by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a former recipient of the award, the statement said.

Conte's office gave no details of the agenda for his meeting with Abdullah, which will include regional developments" and "bilateral relations" according to Jordan's state-run news agency Petra.

After their talks, Conte and Abdullah will sign a 'flag of peace' made by local immigrant cooperative which already bears the signatures of Pope Francis and Merkel, according to Conte's office.

King Abdullah is currently on a trip that takes in four countries - Morocco, Italy, France and Tunisia

King Abdullah, accompanied by his wife Queen Rania will visit Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis (patron saint of Italy and founder of the Franciscan community), where he will be awarded the Lamp of Peace by Franciscan friars.

Abdullah is being given the award for his efforts for peace in the Middle East and the world. Previous winners of the prize include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Colombian president and Nobel Peace peace laureate Juan Manuel Santos, Pope John Paul II, the Dalai Lama.

The Jordanian monarch is currently on a trip that takes in four countries - Morocco, Italy, France and Tunisia.
