Conte in meeting with Chad's president

Italy's president Giuseppe Conte on Friday held talks in Rome with Chad's president Idriss Deby, said a statement from Conte's office.

Chad borders southern Libya and in 2017 the Italian government signed an accord with tribal leaders in the region aimed at staunching migrant flows from Africa to Europe via Libya's porous borders.

Conte and Deby's met on the sidelines of the MED - Mediterranean Dialogues Conference being held on Friday and Saturday. The event focus on the region's main crises especially Libya and Syria as well as a raft of issues including migration, terrorism, climate change, technology and investment.

Representatives of more than 55 countries are taking part in the conference, among them heads of state and government, ministers, senior officials and representatives of the major international organisations, scholars and experts.
