COVID-19 is our "true enemy", Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio stated on Monday, urging citizens to help win the fight against the deadly respiratory disease through responsible behaviour.
“The virus is the true enemy - the cause of mourning, of suffering of sacrifices and restrictions on normal life," Di Maio tweeted.
Di Maio's tweet urged Italians to heed an appeal by their president, Sergio Mattarella, to take due precautions to protect themselves and others from the Coronavirus, which Mattarella said would be defeated by scientific research.
"It will be defeated by research on treatments and vaccines. But we must help research with responsible social behaviour and solidarity towards those who fall ill," Mattarella said.
