Scientific cooperation between the United States and Italy on COVID-19 vaccines and treatments was the focus of talks in Washington on Monday between Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and the US government's top medical advisor Anthony Fauci.
"Today I had talks with Dr Anthony Fauci, top medical advisor to the United States president (Joe Biden) and high-profile representative of the Italian-American community," Di Maio tweeted.
"Bilateral cooperation over vaccines, scientific research and COVID-19 treatments were on the agenda," the tweet added.
Di Maio began a two-day visit to Washington on Monday and is the first foreign minister to visit the US capital since the administration of US president Joe Biden took office in January.
