Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio on Friday welcomed the Emilia Romagna round at Imola's inclusion in next year's Formula 1 calendar.
"Now it's official - #ImolaGP will be in the @F1 calendar also in the next season. Teamwork in which @MFA played a major role," Di Maio tweeted, referring to the foreign ministry.
Imola replaces China which was left off the 2022 calendar amid ongoing uncertainty over travel restrictions.
The Imola event is the Made in Italy and Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and will take place every year until 2025.
"Italy is the only country to host two Formula One Grand Prix: Monza and Imola," Di Maio wrote on Facebook.
The foreign ministry had worked on Imola to boost the Italy brand, Di Maio wrote.
The 2022 season is scheduled to begin in Bahrain on March 20 and end in Abu Dhabi on November 20.
