Foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and State Audit Court president Giancarlo Coraggio attended a ceremony in Rome on Thursday to honour the approximately 650,000 Italian soldiers killed in World War I.
"On National Unity and Armed Forces Day, Minister Luigi Di Maio and Court of Accounts President Giancarlo Coraggio took part in a ceremony to commemorate soldiers killed in the First World War," the ministry tweeted.
During the ceremony, Di Maio and Coraggio laid two wreaths made from laurel leaves at a memorial at the Palazzo Della Consulta and observed a minute's silence, according to the ministry.
The Palazzo Della Consulta, which sits on Rome's Quirinal Hill, formerly housed Italy's foreign ministry and its ministry for colonies.
