Italy's foreign minister Luigi Di Maio will hold talks in Madrid with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi Friday on the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers Meeting, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The ASEM meeting, being held under the theme Europe and Asia, together for effective multilateralism, will centre on the multilateral system and ways to revitalise it, on security and regional issues, gender equality and sustainable connectivity.
At the meeting, Di Maio will outline Italy's policies on key global issues including the empowerment of women, support for multilateralism and the enactment of the landmark 2015 Paris climate accord on global warming, the foreign ministry statement said.
ASEM is a platform for political, economic and cultural cooperation between countries in Asia and Europe. It brings together 53 partners, including 51 European countries and Asian countries, the EU, and the ASEAN Secretariat.
