Italy's foreign minister Luigi wished president Sergio Mattarella "the best of luck in your work" after the 80-year-old was sworn in for a second term of office Thursday following his re-election by the parliament.
"Dignity, commitment, civic passion. For all of us to be responsible for the future of our Republic," said Di Maio.
"We keep on building for a country that deserves the maximum political and institutional endeavour. The best of luck in your work President Mattarella," Di Maio added.
In a speech to parliament on Thursday, Mattarella urged Italians to pull together to support the country's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.
"We still need to work together to strengthen Italy, beyond the current difficulties," Mattarella said, to rounds of applause.
