Foreign under-secretary Manlio Di Stefano on Monday deplored death threats made on the Telegram mobile messaging app against foreign minister Luigi Di Maio after he made statements defending Italy's vaccine roll-out.
"Journalists beaten up, 5Star Movement activists attacked...now even death threats against Di Maio," tweeted Di Stefano, who like Di Maio belongs to 5Star.
Several journalists have been attacked by No-Vax and No Green Pass activists, most recently a video-reporter for La Repubblica daily who was punched in the face and threatened at a protest in Rome on Monday.
"The degeneration of the No-Vax and No Green Pass world must be stopped by criminal prosecution, preventing it from fomenting unscientific populism. Solidarity with Di Maio," the tweet added.
