The Democratic Republic of Congo has pledged to cooperate in probing the killing of Italy's ambassador Luca Attanasio - who was fatally shot on 22 February during an attempt to kidnap him - the foreign ministry tweeted on Friday.
"Assured cooperation on investigations for Ambassador Attanasio, Carabiniere Iacovacci and driver Milambo," read the tweet after talks in Rome between foreign minister Luigi Di Maio and Congolese counterpart Christophe Lutundula Apala Pen Apala.
The talks - held on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the Italy - Africa Ministerial Conference - also covered economic, security and development cooperation, the tweet said.
As the gunmen attempted to kidnap Attanasio in an ambush on a UN World Food Programme convoy he was travelling in on 22 February in North Kivu province, they shot dead Italian Carabinieri officer Vittorio Iacovacci and Congolese driver Mustapha Milambo.
Attanasio died hours later in hospital of his injuries. He was the first foreign ambassador to be killed in the DRC since 1993, and the first Italian ambassador killed while serving his term.
