Russia's president Vladimir Putin must not be allowed to win the war in Ukraine and the international community must keep trying to dialogue with him, Italy's leader has told the European Union.
"It is vital that Putin doesn't win this war, premier Mario Draghi said at a summit of EU leaders in Brussels on Monday.
Phone conversations with Putin are necessary although they have shown he doesn't want peace," Draghi stated.
"Dialogue with Putin is needed to resolve the problem of (blocked) grain (exports) and food security," Draghi said.
"The risk of a food catastrophe is real," Draghi underlined.
Putin will bear responsibility if nations fail to find a solution to the current crisis, Draghi warned.
