Italy's prime minister Mario Draghi is attending the EU MED 9 summit in the Greek capital, Athens, on Friday, whose first session is on climate change and its impact on the Mediterranean region, Draghi's office said in a statement.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will take part in the climate change session to be held on Friday at 15:30 local time, while the EU MED 9 summit meeting will begin at 17:00, the statement said.
The summit agenda items include: Peace, Security and Stability in the Mediterranean', 'The European agenda'; and 'Promotion of a Renewed and Enhanced Partnership with Southern Neighbourhood Countries: A ‘New Agenda for the Mediterranean’', according to the statement.
Besides Draghi, European leaders taking part in the summit include Greece's premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis, French president Emmanuel Macron, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez, Croatian premier Andrej Plenkovic, Cyprus president Nicos Anastasiades, Malta's premier Robert Abela, Slovenian prime minister Janez Jansa and Portuguese foreign minister Augusto Santos Silva, according to local media reports.
