A gang of Egyptian immigrants was arrested for allegedly injuring six Italian security guards at a market in the town of Guidonia outside Rome after they arrived for work there and found they were locked out.

A late night row broke out between the eight Egyptians, who worked as casual labourers at the wholesale market, and the security guards, who refused to open the gates.

The enraged Egyptians allegedly stabbed two security guards while four more guards were beaten around the head by the gang during the savage attack.

The eight gang members were being identified by police after their arrest on Tuesday while the two security guards stabbed by the gang were taken to hospital.
