Italian authorities put an 11-year-old boy in Naples into care on Wednesday after police found him working as a prostitute in the streets around the southern city's central station.
A court ordered the boy to be placed in a special children's home where a team of social workers and psychologists will help rehabilitate him.
The boy's parents claimed to be unaware their son was working as a prostitute and were deemed by the court to be unfit to care for him.
He and two teenage 'minders' known to police spent entire days touting for adult customers, who had sex with the boy in their cars, police said.
The two teenagers have prior convictions for drug pushing, according to police.
